Peter Friesen hails from Winnipeg
Manitoba - though a city generally not
noted for its esthetic beauty, Winnipeg is admired for it’s many
cultural and artistic promotions, events and diversity. Many will have
heard of Winnipeg “Socials”. It was in this artistically ripe
environment that Peter began his journey, at age eleven learning to drum
and age at thirteen, into the professional world of singing and playing
music.
On the home front music was largely loved and played and this
family interest spanned a myriad of genre. This included everything from
Big Band to Opera. Peter was instinctively drawn to Rock & Roll and
Pop. The varieties of tastes introduced to Peter’s musical palette add
a unique flavor to his professional career. Peter has played everything
from Rock and Roll to Country as well as big band and jazz. His
mission when entertaining in his words:
“I’m always trying to appeal to a wider audience and not get stuck
in one little box.” I like meeting the people, playing for the people.
If the people are not interested in what we are doing-if its not
interesting for them-then it is not interesting for us.”
Peter refers to his “Alberta experience” in music having begun in
1995 with various bands and branching out in to a Rock/Pop band he
formed named the “Angry Neighbors” Wouldn’t we love to know the
inspiration behind that name? Recent experiences have included a stint with independent recording artists "Gail Gardner", "Russ McIvor" as well as CCMA Hall of Fame Member Mr.Ray Griff.
